Spotify now available for iPhone
The hotly-awaited iPhone app for Spotify was finally launched this month, and is now available to anyone with a Premium subscriber account.
We love Spotify because it allows you to listen to music on demand and provides access to 6 million+ tracks.
On the iPhone, you can listen to offline playlists - i.e. you can store up to 3,333 songs in offline mode and you don't need to be connected to the Spotify server all the time to listen to them.
The songs do seem to take a while to download though! It will be great if they come up with a better interface to manage the track download for offline listening.
If you're listening over 3G (and even Edge!) the tracks play instantly with Spotify's signature 'no lag' technology, and the interface feels polished and responsive, making it simple to manipulate your music.
Minor nuisances are the lack of Last.fm support, which will be missed by the many scrobblers amongst us, whilst the Apple limitation that non-native apps cannot be run in the background makes multi-tasking tedious.
It's interesting that Spotify has been approved by Apple to appear in the App Store as it is a European iTunes rival.
All in all, this is an exceptional application from Spotify, offering tremendous value for money and an unrivaled feature set. The revolution will not be televised, it will be streamed.
