iPhone 3GS, is it any good?

Well let's be honest there was a lot of pressure on Apple and a lot of rumours of all the new features the new phone was going to have. As with every product Apple sends out it is never quite what the public is expecting, but somehow the team always manages to impress you with features you thought you didn't need. The 3GS looks exactly the same, so what is all the fuss about?

For anyone who doesn't have an iPhone this may sound like a bit of a no brainer, but what Apple has basically done is to go for speed. There you have it, it's all in the name. This may sound a little uninspiring but in actual fact it is exactly what I wanted. The 3G was great and "if it ain't broke then don't try and fix it". The 3GS is great because it allows you to connect to everything quicker. Sure, the camera is still way behind many phones but I never bought it to take pictures in the first place. The new phone is all about connectivity to the world, browsing the net and social networking. The increase in speed means more advanced apps - which is, to my mind, the core success of the phone.

The 3GS is a better platform to allow app developers to push the boundaries further. What Apple has cleverly done is to make the 'phone' element just a minor feature. The iPhone stands apart from its competitors as it does not look like a phone and no longer acts like one. The iPhone is the new personal organiser for the web 2.0 generation and once you have one you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

With the expected launch of the Apple Tablet by the end of the year, Apple continues to develop products which may not be liked by everyone and do have some flaws, but are things people use all the time. My previous phone had a host of features and gadgets but ultimately it was only a phone and for this reason was only ever used as one.

To say that there are no new features would be a lie as they have added a compass, internet tethering, voice command (which does actually work) and a better battery life, but the true benefit will be seen when we get apps developed to take advantage of these features.

All in all the new phone is just better all round and has some great new additions, the only question is whether you want one enough to pay the money?

nice article and im glad the iphone serves u well , however i do think ( in my opinion) the iphone is still just a fad for the price its offering , most modern phones have the same functions and often more functionality at the same price tag as the 3gs and altho their GUI isnt as slick , its more open to the end user.

I totally agree with this article, the 3GS is very addictive and the new features/improvements are great. In someways it\'s easier to use than a PC (apart from the keyboard) It\'s a social networking tool in your pocket and there is so many really great apps for this platform it\'s hard to see how anyone can catch up soon. Android anyone? - Watch this space...
