Apple Launches Snow Leopard
Evolving is a Mac-driven company, and as I'm currently running Mac OSX Leopard I am interested to see what great additions are being made and how they will impact on my day to day activity. Apple says this is not anything new but merely refining an already great product: faster and more efficient with a few added features.
What first surprised me is the smaller footprint, freeing up 7GB compared to the previous version. Also increased wake-up and shutdown, supposedly being up to 80% faster which is great when I am rushing to the next meeting. It has also introduced automatic printer-driver updates which saves more time. However, if I'm honest these are just minor additions and while they are sure to make me happy in the short time the novelty is sure to wear off and no doubt i will want something even better!
What I am most excited about is definitely the new Safari browser and the new next generation Quicktime X which has a new interface and enables easier uploading to Youtube and Mobile Me. With more efficient media playback and HTTP-based live streaming this is sure to keep me captivated. With the iPhone becoming far more advanced I am sure this is a pre-runner to the future of video on your Mac. With the tablet also due out in November I am intrigued to see if we will get any ideas of any new items that might feature on that.
This is particularly evident with the new trackpad. The new advanced screen reading technology enables you to control your computer using gestures on the multi-touch trackpad even if you can't see the screen.
Only time will tell but it certainly looks encouraging. To be honest I am more excited about the new Tablet and look forward to giving you my thoughts on that when it finally arrives.
